WARRIOR —
Lynn Barber is the assistant librarian at the Evelyn Thornton-Warrior Public Library. She was hired in May after longtime assistant librararian Lanette Williams retired. She grew up on the outskirts of Warrior.
How’s your new job going?
It’s going well. I love working here, because I’m a people person and the people who come in here are fun. I’m also five minutes from work, and I’ve always had to drive an hour to get to my job in the past. I also love working with Cassie Johnson, the head librarian.
How did you end up in the job?
It’s certainly a whole different career change. I worked for Birmingham Riverchase for 23 years, and for other companies, like Bellsouth. I found myself without a job in 2008, and I started working for a doctor’s office. I heard about the openings at the library and applied.
Do you have any other interests?
I’m very active in my church. I go to Stewart’s Chapel Methodist Church. Church is very important to me, and it’s very important in my family to be involved in a church. Shopping’s my hobby. And I’m discovering I really like to work. I’ve quit working four or five times over the years, and I’ve always come back to working because I love being around people. It’s been a good change for me.
Tell us about your family.
I have a husband of 41 years named Butch Barber. I have two grown boys, both of which live in north Jefferson. I also have six grandkids, with another on the way.
