Warrior Day set for Nov. 1

By Melanie Patterson

Organizers are still looking for sponsors and vendors for Warrior’s largest annual event.

Warrior Day is scheduled for Nov. 1 at the city’s baseball fields.

“We rely on Warrior businesses to make donations to sponsor the inflatables,” said Karin Thomas, who is organizing the event along with Sonja Newton. “What we’re trying to do is make it free for the kids.”

Warrior Day is the city of Warrior’s largest annual event, where hundreds turn out to enjoy the food, rides and entertainment.

The day kicks off with a parade at 9 a.m.

Line-up begins at Warrior Elementary School at 7:45. There is no charge to be in the parade.

The parade will travel down U.S. Hwy. 31 to Fred’s parking lot.

The grand marshals will be members of the Alabama National Guard’s C Company of Cullman, who recently returned home from Iraq.

Thomas said the soldiers will also be bringing a rock-climbing wall to Warrior Day.

Festivities at the baseball fields are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Entertainment will be provided by Mom and Pop’s Karoake of Warrior, owned by Eugene and Jennifer Pikes.

Mom and Pop’s Karoake has been in business more than 10 years and can provide more than 10,000 songs for karoake or dance music for line dancing, hip-hop or children’s music, according to Jennifer Pike.

“Pretty much anything music-oriented that people want to do, we can handle,” she said.

The Warrior Lions Club will not be sponsoring a car show this year as it has in the past, so Thomas said anyone else interested in hosting a car show should call her.

To sponsor inflatables, organize a car show or rent booth space for $30, call Thomas at 238-9367 or Newton at 602-6527.
