The world’s gone crazy, but God is really in control

Commentary by Danielle Pelkey

The North Jefferson News

I know that everyone is sick of hearing about the great gas debates, but I find it all very amazing. I’ve said before that buying gas is like playing the stock market. You may find it for $3.52 at one gas station and at $4.16 one block down the road.

Of course, playing the stock market hasn’t been a very smart idea for the past week either.

When you find a great deal on gas, it’s hard not to call everyone you know and encourage them to go out and get in on the savings.

When the hurricane was scheduled to hit, I heard on the radio that it would be a smart idea to go ahead and buy gas before it started to rise. I, like everyone else in the nation, went out and topped off my gas-guzzling truck. Although it helped to set the whole gas market into a turmoil, I was thankful that I did. I got my gas for a full 65 cents less than what it was going for the next few days.

I watched as gas went up a whole dollar in a matter of hours.

As I drove by the hundreds of people at the pump with my tank full of unleaded, I just shook my head, as if to say, “Why are you over-reacting like this?” When in reality I just had a little more calm about me because I had already over-reacted earlier in the morning.

Isn’t it amazing what is happening in our economy lately? We are sabotaged into thinking that $3.55 is a steal for gas when only a year ago it was $2.55 and we thought that was outrageous.

Our stock markets are going crazy and our government is talking about buying out the companies that are going under in order to save our economy.

What have we come to? Is this America?

I’m just glad that I have peace in a much Higher Power than the government or our nation’s economy. I know that when things are going totally out of control on this earth, I have a Father who controls everything.

Just put your circumstances in His hands, and let Him lead you into what to do next, whether that means buying gas at this station or the one closer to your house.
