I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas.
• Happy birthday today to Christy Boatright.
• Warrior “I” Church of God will be having their annual watch night service, beginning New Year’s Eve at 7 p.m. and ending on New Year’s Day. The guest speakers will be Richard Handly and James Eason. The guest singers will be The Simmons Family. Everyone is invited.
• Love’s Crossing Church of God will host THIRST on Jan. 4. at 7 p.m. Come on out and join us.
• Love’s Crossing Church of God will be in Revival with John Ritcheson Jan. 17-22.
• Mavis Lawson will be having Bible study in the Warrior Medical Associates office waiting room on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
• Happy birthday to three of my co-workers on Dec. 28: Jerri Metcalf, Laurel Boehm and Rachal Banks. I hope you have wonderful birthdays.
• Happy anniversary to my stepson and daughter-in-law, Doug and Nancy Doyle on Dec. 28.
• Happy birthday to: Wilma Nichols, Wendy Lowe and Joyce Tyler on Dec. 29; Thomas White and Ellen Wilson on Dec. 30; and Randy Glass and Brooke Sherrell on Dec. 31.
• Happy anniversary to my parents, Ray and Opal Wakeland on Dec. 31. I love you and hope it is great.

Use banana peels for plants
Garden Tip: When you boil eggs, keep the water that the eggs were boiled in along with the egg shells. You can pour the water and shells around tomato plants to keep down blossom-end rot.

A mixture to keep white flies away
Garden tip: White flies are on several plants at this writing. Mix one tablespoon of dish liquid with 1/4 cup of Listerine mouth wash with 1/4 cup of ammonia and one tablespoon of garlic powder. Over spray with this mixture in one gallon of warm water. Use the spray mixture while the water is still warm. You can use a quart sprayer or a gallon sprayer.

Mixture to use when transplanting shrubs
Garden tip: When you transplant a shrub or tree, mix in one gallon of warm water, 1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baby shampoo, 4 tablespoons of instant tea granules and 2 tablespoons of fish emulsion.

Autism events scheduled for April
April is Autism Awareness Month. There are a couple of things going on in the area. You can visit www.alabamaautism.org for more information, to register for these events, or to make a much-needed donation to this wonderful organization.

Great gardening tips for beets and cabbage
Garden tip: If you do not have a yard to plant, here are some vegetables and flowers that grow well in containers: beets; cabbage; cucumbers; lettuce; lima beans; onions; peppers; radishes; spinach; squash and tomatoes. You may try to grow tulips, grasses and any annual plant.

Center’s Valentine’s party a labor of love
Everything was perfect, except we didn’t have enough room for everybody. Our cars were lined up two and three deep. Those are just minor inconveniences, right?

Use fertilizer mixture, cola to ready garden
Garden tip: To ready your garden area for planting, use one gallon of fertilizer, one package of epsom salt, a box of Ironite with 1 to 5 pounds of sugar. Spread over the garden area, then overspray with one can of regular cola in a 20-gallon hose-end sprayer.
