Use raked leaves to make ‘black gold’

By Evangeline Sloan

The North Jefferson News

Garden tip: As you rake your leaves, place them in a large lawn bag. Add a half-cup of fertilizer and a half-gallon of water. Close the bag and turn the bag often then wait for one year. You will have beautiful soil called “black gold.”

• Happy birthday greetings go to Laura and Hailey Holt on Dec. 2. They are the daughters of Tara and Terry Holt and granddaughter of Bobby and Dot Mann. I hope both of you have a great day and a wonderful year.

• The Warrior Lions Club is selling pecans for $15 per bag at the R & R Drugstore.

• The Blue Star Garden Club recently met for their regular meeting. Those that enjoyed the day were Martha Absher, Faye Whitlow, Bea and Frank Wideman, Yvonne Gamble, Jeral Jones, Bernice Cash, Tami Nash, Beth Robinson, Patricia Akers and Evangeline Sloan. Patricia gave everyone many pictures from the May 15 tour of the Botanical Gardens. We had the best time watching Louise Jones enjoying the trip. Now she tours heaven.

• Congratulations go to Helen and Joseph Chandler on Dec. 5 for their wedding anniversary. I hope you have many more great years together
