MANKATO, Minn. —
A man sought in connection with a beating in Minnesota that left a former Minnesota State University football player in critical condition has been arrested.
Trevor Stenner Shelley, 21, of St. Peter, was booked into the Blue Earth County Jail on Monday night. He was charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault.
Those are the same charges that Patrick Nelson faces in connection with the incident. Nelson, a former Rutgers quarterback who had transferred from Minnesota earlier this year, allegedly attacked Isaac Kolstad, 24, a former linebacker at Minnesota State University. Nelson has since been dismissed from the Rutgers football program.
The assault happened outside a bar in downtown Mankato early Sunday morning. Police say surveillance video showed Nelson kicking the head of an unconscious Kolstad after a second suspect, believed to be Shelley, knocked Kolstad to the ground with a punch to the face.
Kolstad remained in critical condition Tuesday, his family said.
