Rotary speaker urges help with The ARC

GARDENDALE — Becky Parsons is already planning for Christmas.

Every year since 2007, Parsons has helped organize a Christmas gift drive for residents of The ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens). The adults who live at The ARC have often outlived their parents and have no one to provide Christmas gifts for them, according to Parsons.

She was the guest speaker last week at the Gardendale Area Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon, where she invited the club to get involved by either donating gifts or volunteering their time.

Parsons works at the AT&T Planet store in Fultondale, where a Christmas tree will contain tags with gift requests from 260 individuals who live at The ARC.

In years past, the wish lists have contained items such as music, movies, magazines, dolls, blocks, teddy bears, coloring books, Crayons and puzzles.

The store will host a Christmas dinner for 10 of the residents, along with their sponsors — usually feeding 40 people.

Parsons said The Church Revived in Gardendale usually participates, along with other volunteers.

To help, call Parsons at 608-3022 or visit the AT&T Planet store at 1710 Decatur Hwy. in Fultondale
