GARDENDALE — Bill Latham, right, a Major League Baseball scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, spoke at the Gardendale Area Rotary Club on Feb. 6. Latham pitched at Auburn University from 1978-81. He went on to play for the New York Mets and then the Minnesota Twins. He has worked as a scout since 1998; he scouted for the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox before going to work for the Dodgers. Latham was the guest of Rotary member Lamar Kelley with Regions Bank.

Gardendale Mayor Othell Phillips was the Jan. 30 guest speaker at the Gardendale Area Rotary Club meeting. He was the guest of Rasheeda Burton of Alabama Power Company. Phillips gave a brief overview of the city, including departments, and gave updates on several ongoing projects in Gardendale.
