STATE SOFTBALL FINALS: Athens 12, Mortimer Jordan 7

MONTGOMERY — Mortimer Jordan picked a bad time to blow up.

The Blue Devils found themselves down to unranked Athens 11-1 after four innings, and despite a rally that included two-run homers by Morgan Estell and Heather Parker, they could not overcome the big lead and lost 12-7.

Early in the game, center fielder Haylie McCleney was taken out for dehydration. She was taken to a local hospital for an IV treatment, and is expected to return.

The Devils will play again at 1:30 against the winner of the Eufaula-Springville game.
